Martín Mercadito
For 2024 I was the lead for our Latine & Hispanic ERG at The Martin Agency called Martín. Every year we set out to do something fun for Latine & Hispanic Heritage Month and so this year I set out to do just that. I knew I wanted to create an experience that wasn’t just core to our culture but helped incite curiosity in others to learn a bit more about us as well.
Out of this, we created a mercadito or bodega inside the agency for the entire month. This mercado would house all kinds of snacks, drinks, and fruit that you would find in any other latino market and like those, would also act as a community hub for the different events throughout the month.
The design was heavily influenced by the sometimes sporadic but bright and energetic feels that you would get in latin markets. They tend to mix typefaces often, juxtaposing a script handwritten type text with slightly distorted sans-serif font.
The colors used were also intentionally chosen for the energy they brought by using very saturated bright colors like bright yellows and hot pinks.
Curating the little details inside the mercadito was just as important for me. I wanted to make sure to bring in food and drinks from across the culture as much as I could in order to emphasize the diversity in tastes across Latin America.
The mercadito was highlighted amongst other amazing ways other agencies celebrated:
